Cattle feed production constraint and opportunity in south-western Ethiopia

The absence of updated information on the current status cattle feed bases and production practice is one important determinant that has been affecting in Jinka town South Omo. This study was aimed to investigate basis, availability, constraints opportunities Alga Kebele. A face-to-face household survey conducted by interviewing 31 purposively selected keeper households from Kebele base experiences. qualitative data such as type grazing land productivity, management practices, conservation feeding methods, improved forage extent extension service were analysed using non-parametric while means quantitative parameters age sex households, number categories amount allocated for parametric methods. result showed about 87.1% producers male-headed, 19.1% female-headed. Almost all (96.8%) respondents replied natural pasture main resource very few (3.2%) crop-residue crop aftermath used bases. Most (87.1%) reported there not enough last five years, (12.9%) said produced cattle. All mentioned productivity decreasing since years onward due climate variability (54.8%), a lack strategies (38.5%), increasing populations (9.67%). Moreover, 67.7% did adopt knowledge (41.93%), seed (12.9%), training support (22.58%), shortage (19.35%). land, variability, seeds capacity building are major constraints, existence services favourable agro-ecology an area.
